“Her creations are out the gate different, I love it’s freedom.
- Sez Hollis
Lisa finds Art as the best kind of therapy and genuinely loves to share her passion with others.
“Art by Lisa Mak is, without a doubt, one of a kind!”
- Brigitte Bennett
Lisa’s art journey began in her 40’s when she reconnected with her mother who was a keen glass art collector. She felt strongly about creating a meaningful piece so she attended a Glass Casting course in Ponsonby Auckland. After falling in love with the creative process but struggling with arthritis, over the years she has allowed her imagination to evolve to her current work and loves experimenting with different styles and techniques.
Whilst juggling motherhood, Lisa discovered a new acceptance of her busy mind and the confidence to use art as a creative outlet. She works out of her creative studio at home and whenever possible, recycles and re uses items, giving them a new lease of life.
She combines painting, collaging, industrial materials & weather-resistant paints, vintage tapestries, curated keepsakes, and foliage to create art that is always full of intrigue and originality.
Lisa’s eclectic art collection and creations are inspired by her extensive travels and deep cultural immersion. Each journey connects her with local artists and creatives, and she is excited to bring these diverse influences together on this platform for you to experience. She lives and breathes art, culture, and connection.
Lisa also creates in her ART LAIR, which opens up to a whimsical garden with stunning views of the peninsula harbour. A memorable place to visit, brimming with creativity and expression. Based in the beautiful Tanners Point, NZ. Lisa shares her life with her husband, Chris, and their cats Scarlett and Richie McClaw. She credits Chris as her biggest supporter, praising him for their incredible life together. The couple love hosting, and Lisa’s killer cocktails are a highlight of any gathering!
Lisa encourages you to make an appointment to visit The Lair where there is always an interesting collection of evolving art pieces that are not available online through the Shop.
"Meeting artist Carmen Simmonds was like opening bi-fold doors to a new world for me. She helped me confront my self-doubt and encouraged me to embrace my ability to create by bringing things together with my hands. I learned to recognise myself as an artist and allowed the ideas in my mind to flow freely, transforming them into something real. Her guidance helped me unlock a deeper connection to my own creativity, enabling me to fully express my vision."
